Miki Velilla was born in Barcelona. After finishing his BA in Dentistry and studying theatre at "El Cole del Teatre”, he got a BA in Film Directing at ESCAC. During his cinema studies he achieved the scholarship for the best marks during the first year ending up with the best marks of his promotion.
As graduation film, he wrote and directed "Eslabón" (Link) which was released at Sitges Film Festival Official Competition 2012 and was selected in many more.
After working as AD in cinema and advertisements, he founded his own production company "Nowhere" working for brands as L'Óreal or Redken. Later on, he started working as freelance filmmaker in music videos for Sony Music or Universal Music, as well as in advertisements for brands as Damm, La Caixa, Pharmaton, Bombay Sapphire, Kymco or Motul.
In addition, Miki has also mixed his scientific background with filmmaking, working for medical companies as Zimmer Biomet or Piramal as their content filmmaker.
Lately, having finished a MA in Screenwriting at the London Film School, his short film "My own life", won the first prize at Xàbia Negra Film Festival 2017 and his Spanish music documentary "A documentary about the wrong band” (selected at Portobello Film Festival 2018) was released on Amazon Prime Video and Filmin.
Currently he is working as freelance filmmaker and has released his own production company "Base Camp Productions", while funding his first feature film "Hora de salida" (Departure time).
